PIP claimants may be able to wipe out their council tax bill - this is how

PIP payments offer important support to those living with conditions that may come with extra costs. Whether it is the cost of medicine, attending important appointments, or simply help for getting around the house and out and about, PIP can help. PIP is tax-free and Britons can receive it whether they are in work or not.

While the exact reduction can vary from person to person, it may climb up to 100 percent.

The council tax reduction could be available to individuals in receipt of either the daily living or mobility component of PIP.

To apply for a council tax reduction, claimants will need to reach out to their local council.

Individuals may be required to send the council a copy of their PIP award letter.

This, also known as an award notice, is sent out to PIP claimants when the DWP first makes a decision on their claim.

From this point onwards, the local council will be able to tell a PIP claimant whether they are eligible for support and how much of a discount they could receive.

PIP is dependent on how a person’s condition affects them, rather than the condition itself.

Britons can expect to receive anywhere between £23.70 and £89.60 per week from the payment.

PIP is currently split into two parts - daily living and mobility, with payments varying between the two.

At present, the weekly rate for the mobility part of PIP is either £23.70 or £62.55.

For the daily living part, the payments are either £60.00 or £89.60 per week.

The amount a person receives in PIP will not be affected by any income or savings they currently have.
