Attendance Allowance helps with extra costs if a person is living with a condition severe enough that they need assistance. How much a person receives is based on the level of care and support they usually need. But research undertaken in 2019 by benefits charity, turn2us, has shown 3.4million pensioners are missing out on a claim for Attendance Allowance.
Similarly, Attendance Allowance does not have to be spent on specific care needs, or procuring a carer.
Instead, people will be able to spend the sum on what they see fit, whether this be living costs, the price of getting out and about, or home adaptations to suit their needs.
Another issue which can arise with Attendance Allowance is the application process.
Some state pensioners may have applied in the past, but seen their application turned down for a variety of reasons.
Just because an application for Attendance Allowance may have been rejected previously, does not make it the end of the road for those who want support.
If a person’s circumstances have changed, they may find they do become eligible to receive Attendance Allowance due to their needs.
The lower rate of Attendance Allowance is set at £60 and designed to help those who need frequent help or constant supervision during the day, or supervision at night.
Similarly, the higher rate of Attendance Allowance has a payment of £89.60 per week.
This is for those who need help or supervision throughout both day and night.
Individuals who are sadly terminally ill may not think they can get this kind of support from the Government.
However, the opposite is true and the DWP has special provisions for those who have been told they have six months or less to live.
People should apply for Attendance Allowance straight away if they are terminally ill and the process is expedited.
These individuals will automatically receive the higher rate of Attendance Allowance to help with their needs.
Britons will be able to claim Attendance Allowance through the dedicated form via post, which contains instructions on how to fill it in.
This can then be sent to the DWP free of charge, and no stamp or postcode is required.
