For those applying for breathing space support, it can only be done by seeking debt advice from a debt adviser.
The DWP explained anyone who cannot or is unlikely to be able to repay their debts can apply to a debt adviser for a standard breathing space.
It should be noted that while all applications must be considered, the debt adviser may decide a breathing space period is not the best course of action.
There is a broad range of qualifying debts this scheme can be used for which includes credit cards, store cards, personal loans, payday loans, overdrafts, utility bill arrears or mortgage and rent arrears.
