"Also look for links to their social media channels and pages, if their page was made recently and the company has been around for a while, they might be a red flag."
In recent years, price-comparison websites have popped up comparing the best deals for many products, from ISAs to mortgages.
This is another potential target for fraudsters and Kevin addressed this: "Some scams might be coming in at a different angle and pretending to be a middle man - but here is where they will ask for your personal details when you inquire. They will contact you either by phone or email and then continue to sell you fake financial products."
On what people should do in the face of these fake websites, Kevin said the following: "Same as above. Make sure that you dig deep into whether or not this comparison site is legitimate, do they have a reputable website - have you seen adverts that are promoting them? Although the starting point of this scam can vary, they all seem to work in the same way.
"The website will first ask you for personal information, where they are able to contact you and sell you fake products over the internet or by phone, to products that simply do not exist. You would then transfer money into your new savings product – but of course, these products don’t actually exist, and instead, the scammers steal the money you’ve transferred.
"The fraudsters may also ask you to create an online account to manage your products, but they’ll then use these personal details (such as your password, or memorable information) to attempt to access other accounts you have open in your name. Slowly but surely, you become a victim of fraud."
