PIP claimants may be eligible for the Motability Scheme - car & wheelchair help available

PIP can help people with some of the extra costs associated with long term physical or mental health. This can include certain physical disabilities and those with particular issues can receive additional support on top of the basic payments.

Motability explained how the scheme works: "The Motability Scheme enables anyone in receipt of a qualifying mobility allowance to use their mobility allowance to lease a car, scooter, powered wheelchair or Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle (WAV).

"You simply exchange all, or part of your mobility allowance to lease the vehicle of your choice.

"You choose the vehicle you want at a price that works for you, and payments are deducted from your allowance every four weeks, then paid directly to us by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) or Veterans UK.

"Our standard lease is over three years, or five years if you are leasing a WAV."

So long as a person is eligible, they'll receive payments which can be split into two parts.

A daily living part provides a weekly rate of either £60 or £89.60.

Mobility payments can pay out either £23.70 or £62.55 per week.

Claims for PIP can be made by telephone, textphone or through the post.
